Go to Cool, Cool Mountain, the star entitled "Lil' Penguin Lost." After you return the baby to its mother and she gives you a star, pick back up the baby penguin and then jump and get the star. The baby gets stuck in the air!

Submerge Tall,Tall Mountain

Get Luigi, and then enter the second star mission of Tall, Tall Mountain. Go up the mountain by the way of Ukiki, the shy guy, and the rolling log (taking the owl doesn't usually work, though sometimes it does). Once you are at the top, past the waterfall, there is a red box. Get the flower and become invisible. After the invisibility wears off, or even as it is wearing off, work your way down the mountain to the area where there are several large red polka-dotted mushrooms with red coins on them. The second-smallest of them is a teleporter; when you stand on it, it will teleport you to an area along the cliff near the cannon. If done correctly, when you get teleported there, you should be underwater, and can swim. When you swim off the edge, the wind will blow you and ruin the swimming physics but keep the blue tinge to the level. Swim almost straight up and keep close to the mountain. Once you are past the ledge, you can swim around and there is a top to the water where you can get air and then dive back under and keep exploring. If you go near the start of the level, the underwater glitch turns off.

While riding the vertical lift in Hazy Maze Cave (the one that takes you to the Dorrie), switch to first person view. Move the camera angle around and you can see the bottom half of the level.

Spontaneously exploding goombas

Often, you can get a goomba to spontaneously die and give you his coin. This has been seen in Tall, Tall, Mountain, though it will probably happen in other places as well. Normally, it involves the Goomba spotting you, then doing that crazy running. Running against certain corners, edges, or into water will make them pop.

Stand on water

This probably works with any character, but has only been done with Mario. Go to Jolly Roger Bay, and head to the middle of the water area (by the boat) where there are long poles coming out of the water. They have thick bases that become narrower at the top of the pole, making the top part climbable and letting you reach coins or extra lives. Go to the one by the wall (this may work with others). Climb up it from the base slowly and you will make a little bit of progress. Because Mario's not meant to climb up things of that thickness, his hands will go through the pole and after a little ways up, he'll eventually release his grip and slide down. After sliding down, often Mario will end up standing on top of the water. Walking around will make him fall back in, though.
