Eternal invinsibility (as long as you don't move)
Discovered by: Connie at CGS
Exciting-ness scale: 2 out of 10
Does it work? --> Confirmed. It works.

Go to the 2nd level (Whomp's Fortress or something) and run into a sleeping (or awake) Piranha plant. Now, while you're recovering and flashing, stand right where the piranha is, so that you're going through him and he's trying to bite you. Now, just stand there... you'll keep your invinsibility as long as you don't move outside of the piranha plant.

Messed up doors

This works on any one-sided door. Go through the door and then immediately turn backand run and punch at the door. Do this repeatedly, and often strange things will happen. Sometimes you'll punch through the door and end up inside of it. Any slight movement will make you move into the next room, though. Sometimes when you open the door, you'll end up "opening" air, because the animation gets animated when you're past the door. And, sometimes, you'll enter a room twice when you should be traveling to the room on the other side. Fun fun fun!

Bring the bunny around the castle

Get access to the basement (fight the first Bowser) and get 15 stars or 50 (some high number) so that the yellow rabbit appears in the basement. Chase after him and grab him. Now, when he gives up, pick him up and bring him to the door you used to enter that area. Walk into the right side of the door and press Z so you start to crawl and drop the bunny. Still in crawling mode, turn around so you're facing the bunny and then stand up. Pick him up, turn around, and drop him on the other side of the door. Now, back up so you get pushed back to the room you were in and walk through the door. There's the rabbit, outside of his normal area! You can do this to many doors and bring the rabbit around the castle. You can also use him to access areas you wouldn't normally be able to (see beat the game with just 16 stars).

Supersonic speed to get you through walls

Staircases can zoom you through doors, strangely. I'm not sure if this works with all staircases, but it does work on the second-floor staircase leading to the clock area, and it works on the endless staircase! Go to the bottom of the stairs, face away from them, and do a long jump forwards (run, Z + A). Hold onto the Z button. Now, tilt the control stick in the direction of the stairs and continue to long jump. You should start to slowly long jump backwards. Now, when you land on the stairs, continue to do the backwards long-jump but hit A repeatedly. If you do it in just the right way, Mario should start to bounce rapidly against the stairs and shoot up them really quickly. He'll then zip through the wall behind the stairs. Strangely enough, this will work on the endless stairs, so even if you have less than 70 stars, using this technique will blast you through the infinity of it and bring you to the final Bowser. The strange endless-stairs music will continue at the Bowser area, although it usually doesn't.

Beat the game with just 16 stars

Get 15 stars so you can access the first Bowser. Fight him and gain the key to the basement. Go to the basement and catch the yellow rabbit. Now, use the bring the bunny through doors trick to bring him to the lobby of the basement (just go through the entrance to the area where you found the bunny). Now, bring him to the 30-star door leading to the second Bowser. This part is rather difficult (and frustrating because of the constant "you need 30 stars" message - but don't give up, this is doable!). Place him just in front of the door and stand a bit behind him, facing away from him. Now, do a jump and tilt the control stick in the direction of the bunny so you jump backwards. You should land between the bunny and the door. Keep on jumping like this, sometimes having to reset yourself to behind the bunny, and you should eventually get popped through the door by the bunny.

Now, enter Dire Dire Docks and get a star to open up the 2nd Bowser. Fight him and gain the key to the upstairs. Go upstairs and then go to the stairs leading to the 50-star door. Use the supersonic speed to get you through walls glitch to get up the stairs, through the star door. Now, go to the endless stairs and use the same supersonic speed glitch on the endless stairs. You should be at the final Bowser. Fight him, and you will have beaten the game with just 16 stars! You also don't need to have gotten any of the caps, and even without the wing cap, Mario will still fly around in the ending scene.
