This is very difficult to do without a turbo button. Because Toad is the fastest at picking things up, you have a better chance of doing this with him, but it should work with anyone. Get a potion and throw it on top of whatever you want stuck to your head (vegetables, POWs, turtle shells, other potions, etc.). Go through the door. Now that you're in sub-space, stand somewhere with nothing to grab underneath you. Push the B button repeatedly as fast as you can. If done right, when you come out of sub-space, you'll grab the item under the door so fast that the game doesn't seem to recognize it. The item will be on your head and your hands will not be holding it there. You can keep playing as usual, picking things up and such, but now when you go through a door, or climb a vine to the next screen, the item will be in your hands ready for you to throw.

This is hard to do, and doesn't work all of the time. Get a potion, and get enough cherries to make a star come out. Throw the potion, and grab the star. Go into sub-space while you are invincible. Right when the Subspace music starts up, exit through the door. If done right, the Subspace music will keep playing.

Skip through a lot of the last level

Go to the last level (7-2). The level starts out outside. Walk to the right and into the building. Keep going to the right and climb up the chain to the next screen. Once there, go to the left, past the sparks and to the chain that would take you up a screen. Don't take that chain all the way up. Start climbing it, until the screen is just about to change. Now, while on the chain, jump off to the right. If you keep running, you'll find that the programmers just built that whole section for several parts of the level. Once you get right far enough you'll see Birdo, who usually has a key inside of him. The key won't be in him this time. Instead it's on the conveyor belt, and you can just pick it up and throw it at him.

Potion door oddities

If you make a subspace door in front of an actual door, and then go through it, you won't go into subspace; it'll just take you wherever you're supposed to go. But, if you make a subspace door in front of a locked door, you'll go into subspace instead.

To make an enemy live through the POW-block attack, do the following: Pick up a POW-block and stand on an enemy's head. Throw the POW-block and IMMEDIATELY pick up the enemy. It will be unharmed, and you can use it for whatever you like.
